FAQ, Facts & Information Ring of Fire FAQ’s, Facts & Information (.pdf)
1. Do I have to be timed? NO. You do not unless you are registering to RACE or you are in the SUB 17 Series. The Ring of Fire is a Ride and a Race and want you to feel free to take your time.
2. Will there be Rest Stops along the course. YES. We will have Rest Stops approximately every 15 miles. You must bring your own water bottles for our bike to fill at the Rest Stops.
3. What type of hydration will you have on course? We are very happy to have NUUN as our Hydration Partner for the Ring of Fire. NUUN tablets will be available at every Rest Stop. Simply drop a tablet into your bottle with water from the Water Monster and you are set! Additionally some Rest Stops will have Pickle Sport Juice provided to assist with severe hydration needs.
4. What type of food will you have at the Rest Stops? All the usual, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, bananas, chips, cookies...calories galore to get you to the next Rest Stop.
5. Will there be "Hand Ups" allowed at this event. I am sorry but we don't feel Hand Ups on the course would be safe for all of the participants and for the possible traffic in the area.
6. Will the course be closed to traffic? NO. The course will be open to all local traffic. It is very important that we share the road, ride single file and obey all traffic laws.
7. Will there be SAG/SWEEP vehicles on the course? YES. We will be providing SAG & Sweep services along the course during course hours. If you are behind course closing time allotments you will be asked to be driven back to the finish line.
8. How will someone know to pick me up if I had a mechanical or accident? We will have several vehicles on course, as well as about a dozen medical motorcycles and cycling medics on course. However if you feel you have been waiting a long time please call or text (sometimes text works better in that area) 512-517-8118 with your location.
9. Can I have my own SAG vehicle follow me on the course? We do not feel that is a safe option and could cause more traffic and congestion, in turn be a safety issue for other riders.
10. Where can I get a map? We have maps posted online and strongly suggest you print them off and bring with you. It is the participants responsibility to know the course. The courses will be marked but we can not guarantee you will see the markings or that they will be there after they are placed on the course.
11. What time does the course close? The entire course will shut down by 3:30 pm.
12. Can I use my Aerobars? YES you may, however we strongly encourage you to wait to get into your Aerobars until the crowd has thinned out and you are not riding in a pack. Pack riding in your Aerobars is VERY dangerous and can be fatal in an accident, not only to your bike...but to you and who you take out with you.
13. I am signed up for the Sub 17 Series, is there drafting allowed? YES. Lucky you! Just make sure you do your share of pulling!
